Marshall Opens Mission Valley League Play w/a 13-1 Victory at El Monte; Lain, Pendleton & Hernandez Combined for Seven RBIs

Seven of Marshall’s nine losses this season have come by nine runs or more.

On Wednesday, though, the Eagles were on the right side of an ass kicking.

And best yet, it was their Mission Valley League opener.

Marshall thumped their hosts from El Monte, 13-1.

The Eagles out-hit the Lions, 16-4, including a 5-0 advantage in extra-base hits.

Javier Casas got roughed up for eight runs on 13 hits over six innings.

Casas walked two and fanned a pair of Marshall batters.

Elijah Lain went 3-for-4 with a walk, two singles and a three-run inside-the-park home run in the five-run seventh inning.

Chris Romero walked, singled twice and scored three times.

Kaden Mullins went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs.

Will Jennings tripled and scored.

Eli Macias went 2-for-3 with a walk, double, run and one RBI.

Tony Hernandez walked and had a two-run double.

Bryce Steinberg singled in a run.

Miles Pendleton doubled in a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

Liam Wahlstrom went 2-for-5 with a run and one RBI.

Jack Badzey pinch ran for Macias and he scored on Walhlstrom’s seventh-inning single.

Caleb Kaloostian went three innings and allowed an unearned run on just one hit.

Kaloostian didn’t issue a walk and registered six strikeouts.

Steinberg provided four scoreless innings, and he surrendered one hit.

Steinberg didn’t five a free pass and he fanned three El Monte batters.

Matthew Gomez went 2-for-3 and drove in the only run of the game for the Lions.

Up next: The Eagles will host Mountain View on Friday at 3:30 in another MVL contest.
