Patterson’s Two Doubles & Three RBIs Help Lead Citrus to a 14-7 WSC Victory Over Canyons; Hines Contributed w/Bat & Arm

College Baseball:

Citrus cruised to a 14-7 Western State Conference (South) victory over their visitors from Canyons in the first of a three-game set this week with the Cougars.

The Owls scored in every inning but the bottom of the fourth, and they finished with 15 hits.

They also had a 7-1 advantage in extra-base hits, all of which were doubles.

Tyler Hawn was roughed up for nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits over five innings.

Hawn walked two and struck out a pair of Citrus batters.

Garrett Patterson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBIs.

His three-run double in the third gave the Owls a 7-2 lead.

Cole West had an RBI ground out, an RBI double and scored.

Derek Almeda went 2-for-5 with a run, double and one RBI.

Jordan Daniels had an RBI double in the first inning, singled and scored.

Cam Casado finished 2-for-3 with a walk, double, two runs and an RBI.

Nick Velazquez doubled, had an RBI single and scored three times.

Julian Hines went 3-for-4, including an RBI single, a double and a pair of runs.

Jackson Gray had an RBI pinch-hit single.

Dominic Torrez drove in a run on a second-inning sac fly.

Matt Kaneshiro walked and scored.

Joe Gilkeson scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.

Michael Moses was credited with the win after allowing five runs on eight hits over five innings.

Moses didn’t give a free pass and struck out four.

Julian Hines (2) and Gabe Buranasiri (1) provided three hitless and scoreless innings in relief.

Hines struck out a pair of batters.

Michael Hogan hit a solo HR.

Kotaro Kuwatani went 3-for-4 with a bases-loaded walk, run and one RBI.

Ben Strutt walked, had an RBI single and scored.

Jung Jun Lee singled and scored.

Travis Van Ness walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.

Joey Besemer walked, singled and scored.

Reid Farrell had an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning.

Liam Ostrom singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.

Up next: The Owls travel to Santa Clarita for game two on Thursday at 2.
