Baseball:
Maranatha outlasted Northview, 11-9, in what could only be described as a slugfest.
Of the nine combined extra-base hits, there were eight home runs.
And the Minutemen went deep six times.
Trailing 7-6 as they grabbed their bats in the top of the sixth inning, MHS scored twice, and they plated three more in the seventh.
Fernie Casas went four innings for Northview, and he was charged with six runs on four hits.
Casas didn’t issue a walk and registered three strikeouts.
Levi Rosales allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits over three innings of work.
Rosales didn’t give a free pass, and he fanned one MHS batter.
Lukus Perez, Jayden Morales and Yaya Treto combined for six home runs and 10 RBIs, including two HRs apiece.
Perez went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, Treto scored three times and drove in three, and Morales totaled four RBIs.
Trevor Rivas doubled, scored and drove in a run.
Will Suslow singled, was hit by pitch and scored two runs.
Kaden Lai went three innings for MHS, and he allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits.
Lai walked one and fanned three NHS batters.
Bradley Loiacono got the win, going three innings and surrendering four runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk.
Gabe Barragan got the final three outs for the Minutemen to earn the save.
Jayden Chagollan went 3-for-4, including a two-run single and a two-run HR.
Michael Mendoza singled and hit a three-run HR in the five-run third inning.
Ezekiel Martinez drew a walk, singled and scored three times.
Bobby Granados had an RBI single.
Jaime Gallardo walked and scored.
Isaiah Benavidez went 2-for-4.
Nate Arellano and Jake Aguilar scored one run apiece.
Up next: The Minutemen open Olympic League play on Tuesday evening when they host Whittier Christian.
The Vikings travel to Ayala next Wednesday.
