College Baseball:

Mt. SAC had a consequential Thursday afternoon.

The Mounties knocked Cerritos out of first place with a 4-0 victory.

And they pulled to within two games of first place El Camino thanks to an LA Harbor victory over the Warriors.

Hudson Castillo, Seth Sumner and Juan Verduzco combined on a three-hit shutout.

Castillo surrendered the three hits, didn’t issue a walk and registered four strikeouts.

Sumner didn’t allow a hit over one-plus, walked three and fanned one Falcon.

Verduzco came in with the bases loaded and no outs and retired the side in the ninth, including one strikeout.

Jose Perez, Mateo Heredia and Andrew Perez had one hit apiece for the visitors.

Nolan Patterson got the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Patterson walked three and struck out a trio of Mounties.

Chip Mertz went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs from the leadoff spot.

Nick Mejia singled twice and scored.

Hudson Karczynski walked and had an RBI single in the first inning.

Brock Foulds and Mario Cuadros each had a sac fly in the win.

AC Nieto doubled for the game’s lone extra-base hit.
