Citrus Pounds Bakersfield 13-1 in WSC Series Opener; Owls Have Already Matched Last Year’s Win Total in 19 Less Games

The Andy Smith era is off to a great start at Citrus College.

The Owls (13-7) have already matched last year’s win total in 19 less games.

And seven of their 13 wins have come against state-ranked programs.

In the first of a three-game WSC series, Citrus dropped a 13-1 thumping on their hosts from Bakersfield.

For all intents and purposes, the Owls put the game away in the top of the fourth inning.

Leading 2-0, they put up six runs, and the outcome was never in doubt.

Citrus out-hit Bakersfield, 14-5, including a 5-0 edge in extra-base hits.

Tim Hudson improved to 3-1 after going five innings and allowing one run on four hits.

Hudson issued a pair of walks and registered seven strikeouts.

Hudson was also voted the WSC Athlete of the Month.

Beau Lloyd (2), Christian Eaton (1) and Marcus Reese (1) combined to provide four scoreless innings in relief and six strikeouts.

Tryce Sprainhoward walked and his RBI single in the fifth accounted for the only Renegades run.

Luke Shaw singled and scored.

Landon McDonald and Nick Martin walked and had one single apiece.

The Renegades issued an embarrassing 16 batters on Tuesday.

Jacob Berumen was saddled with the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) on three hits over three innings.

Berumen walked six and fanned a pair of Citrus batters.

The Owls scored at least one run off four other Bakersfield pitchers.

Cam Casado had a monster game.

Casado went 4-for-4 with a pair of two-run doubles, a solo HR and two runs.

Julian Hines drew a pair of walks, singled twice, drove in one and scored twice.

Derek Almeda walked three times, singled, scored two runs and drove in a pair.

Matt Kaneshiro drew three walks, doubled in a run and scored.

Azael Hernandez walked and hit a solo home run.

Dustin Yela walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Joe Gilkeson walked three times and scored twice.

Lance Armijo had an RBI single.

Cole West went 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and an RBI single.

Jackson Gray singled once in the win.

Up next: The Owls host the Renegades on Thursday at 2.
