Baseball:
After four losses and a tie, the Covina baseball program was nearing win No. 2 of the 2026 season.
The Colts held a 3-0 lead at Monrovia, and they were four outs away from a road victory.
However, the Wildcats scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, and they pushed across one run in the seventh inning to secure a 4-3 victory.
Donovan Johnson was saddled with the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Johnson issued four walks and registered eight strikeouts.
Sixty-one of his 94 pitches were strikes.
Evan Huelster had a two-run RBI double to get the Wildcats to within 3-2.
Jayden Castaneda followed with an RBI single to catch CHS at 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Lucas Martinez reached on an error, Troy Grise doubled and Braydon Blackmore was intentionally walked to load the bases with no outs.
Sutton Powers bunted, which scored Martinez with the game winning run.
Blackmore also had a pair of singles in three at-bats.
Martinez also drew a walk and singled.
Braeden Petteruto-Shine drew a pair of walks and scored.
Wyatt Barrier went three innings, and he was charged with one run on two hits.
Barrier walked one and struck out a pair of CHS batters.
Greyson Lorenzini allowed a pair of unearned runs on one hit over two innings.
Lorenzini issued three walks and registered one strikeout.
Powers was credited with the win after a hitless and scoreless seventh inning, including a pair of strikeouts.
Aaron Cordova walked and his RBI single in the top of the second gave Covina a 1-0 lead.
Lucas Thorpe singled and scored.
Ethan Echeverria walked, singled and scored.
Damien Morimoto walked and scored.
Up next: Monrovia travels to Garfield today (Tuesday) at 3.
Covina will visit South Hills on Thursday evening at 6.
