He issued a pair of walks and registered four strikeouts.

Brosterhous secured the save by getting the final two outs, including one via strikeout.

The Bearcats had an 8-5 advantage in base hits, including 2-0 in extra-base hits.

Austin Banuelos went 2-for-3.

Brady Horn, Joaquin Mendez and Sean Compton singled in the loss.

Covarrubias was saddled with the loss after allowing two runs on five hits over six innings.

He walked four and struck out three SDHS batters.

Ryder Gibson went a scoreless and hitless inning in relief.

Quotable:

San Dimas coach, Mike Regan: “James Rocha is a big-game pitcher as is Dean Brosterhous. We knew going in that we may use both if needed for this game. You need guys with a slow heartbeat to win big games and that is exactly what they did today. We had great at-bats from Lou Farias, Dean, Josh Calcanas and AJ Larios, which gave us a shot to win. Calcanas is one of our leaders, and he set the tone from the games start with a leadoff single. The rest of the guys did their job and fed off the energy. It was a fun game to coach and the boys showed up.”

San Dimas pitcher, James Rocha: “I had my inside fastball working well, and that helped set my other pitches up. The two runs gave me some comfort, but I knew I had to buckle down and pound the zone. Bonita is a good program, and I know they swing the bats well. It’s a huge deal to beat Bonita. They’re out rivals and we’ve had a lot of success of late against them. I’m happy to do my part in beating our rival. I have the most confidence in Dean and I knew he’d come in and close out the win. We have good chemistry and I think we’ll compete for a league title.”
