Baseball:
Etiwanda opened their 2026 season with an impressive 10-2 victory over Maranatha at Brookside Park in Pasadena.
The Minutemen scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
However, Michael Aleman, Noah Frias and CJ Monzon combined to shut MHS out the rest of the way.
Aleman got the win after going 4 2/3 innings, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.
Aleman walked one and fanned a pair of Maranatha batters.
Noah Frias provided 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Frias allowed one hit, walked one and struck out a pair of Minutemen.
CJ Monzon went a scoreless and hitless seventh inning, including one strikeout.
Trevor Rivas led off the bottom of the first with a single, and Will Suslow bunted him to second.
Gabe Barragan doubled in Rivas, and Barragan would score two batters later thanks to an EHS infield error.
Yahir Treto, Lukus Perez, Noe Zavala and Will Suslow had one single apiece on Saturday.
Kaden Lai was roughed up for nine runs (four earned) on seven hits over five innings.
Lai issued two walks and struck out three Etiwanda batters.
LJ Roellig had a big opening day.
Roellig went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, a two-run triple, and he scored once from the leadoff spot.
James Milam tripled and drove in three runs.
Derick Kim went 2-for-3 with a walk, run, double and one RBI.
Adam Ornelas singled twice and scored three runs.
Jaxson Milius walked and scored.
Angel Mejia had an RBI single and scored in the seven-run fifth inning.
Josh Adams singled and Nathan Perez scored in the win.
