College Baseball:
Mt. SAC needed a win in the worst way possible.
The Mounties entered Wednesday’s South Coast Conference opener having lost four in a row and seven of their last nine games.
And up stepped San Marino’s 2025 ace, Tomas Bilvado.
Bilvado tossed a four-hit shutout in Mt. SAC’s 2-0 victory over LA Harbor.
He didn’t issue a walk and struck out 10 Seahawks’ batters.
Bilvado struck out the first three batters in the LA Harbor lineup seven times.
Perhaps most impressive was the freshman’s control.
Of his 87 pitches, Bilvado threw 64 strikes.
In other words, 74-percent of his pitches were in the strike zone.
Brandon Luna, Sam Arredondo, Alberto Gomez and Christian Hernandez had one single apiece to account for the Seahawks offense.
Lucas Bauer was saddled with the loss in spite of allowing just a pair of unearned runs on five hits over six innings of work.
Bauer walked three and fanned seven MSAC batters.
Brock Foulds went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead.
Andrew Alva drew a walk and doubled in Foulds in the sixth inning.
Chip Mertz walked, singled and scored from the leadoff spot.
Ryan Castro singled in the win.
Up next: The Mounties host the Seahawks on Friday evening at 5.
