Wrestling:
Bonita’s Jacob Fernandez was the only 210 Prep Sports wrestler to claim a CIF-SS Eastern Division Individual championship at Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley.
It was the sophomore’s first CIF title.
Jacob’s older brother, Tristan Fernandez, who competes at San Francisco State, won three individual championships between 2023-2025.
Fernandez won his first three matches via pin, and his tech fall earned him a spot in the finals.
Fernandez would go on to defeat Pacifica’s Robert Ramirez, 9-4, in the 144-pound title bout.
Ramirez had three pins and a tech fall before facing off with the Bonita sophomore.
Ayala’s Jayren Chan was the 113-pound runner up.
Chan earned two decision victories and one pin before Victor Valley’s Daniel Mendoza put Jayren’s shoulders to the mat in 47 seconds.
Bonita’s Elias Echeveste pinned his first three opponents, and he earned a decision victory to earn a spot in the 120-pound title bout.
Isaac Castaneda of Canyon Springs defeated Echeveste in the final.
Ayala’s Mason Eligio went 4-0 in the 165-pound class.
Eligio tallied three consecutive pins, and he defeated Claremont’s Matthew Blek, 17-8, in the semifinal round.
Unfortunately, Eligio had to default his final bout with Lakeside’s Jesus Guzman due to injury.
Bonita heavyweight Matthew Mijares qualified for this week’s CIF-SS Masters Meet by placing third.

126: Zander Rogers (Walnut) def. Uriel Cruz (Paloma Valley), 4-3.
132: Anthony Saldana (Paloma Valley) pinned Jacob Lopez (Pacifica) at 3:09.
138: Noah Sanchez (Victory Valley) def. Ryan Homan (Buena), 15-11.
144: Jacob Fernandez (Bonita) def. Robert Ramirez (Pacifica), 9-4.
150: Jayden De La Rosa (Burbank) pinned Brandon Owen (Paloma Valley) at 4:43.
