Quotable:
Chaffey coach, Grant Mayeaux: “It’s always good to get the first one out of the way. I’m really happy with the guys and the level of buy-in they have. They weren’t certain who their head coach would be, but it seems like they trust us like we trust them. I wasn’t sure what we were going to get out of our guys (pitchers) today, and they threw a lot of strikes and didn’t walk many batters. Trevor kept them off balanced, and he doesn’t seem to get phased on the mound. Dom ran into some trouble, but he didn’t take his foot off the gas pedal, and I was happy with the way he competed. Davis came in and closed the door, and he was as cool as he possibly could be. Jack Terry’s double was huge with two strikes. It gave us more room for error.”
