Boys Hoops:

Ayala pulled off the rare sweep of Glendora on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs claimed a 73-70 victory at AHS.

Ayala went on a 21-14 run in the final eight minutes to secure their first two-game sweep over the Tartans in 10 years.

AHS had four players in double figures.

Milo Tun led the way with 20 points.

Tun hit six 3-pointers, which was two more than Glendora had as a team.

Brenden White scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half, including three 3’s.

Zach Canellopoulos chipped in with 14 points and 12 of the 14 came from beyond the 3-part arc.

Joshua Townsell finished with 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Jeremiah Garzon scored a game-high 27 points in the loss.

Max Hilgenfeldt provided 16 points for GHS.

Tanner Grable and Moshe Loucks contributed nine points apiece in the loss.

The boys in red were also pumped to get the win for assistant coach Dale Batac on his 25th birthday.

Batac won a CIF-SS title for current AHS head coach Sameer Bhatt at Nogales in 2018, and he’s spent the last seven years on Bhatt’s staff.

Up next: The Bulldogs and Tartans will both be in action on Friday.

Glendora hosts Diamond Bar, and Ayala welcomes Walnut to their gym.

Quotable:

Ayala coach, Sameer Bhatt: “Tonight’s win was definitely earned. Glendora has battled with us until the end in both of our league games, so much credit to them. We played an exceptional team game tonight, with many of our young men stepping up at the right time to help us secure a great home win. Any game in the Palomares League is a tough match up. I’m proud of our young men and our coaching staff. We’ve got to get prepared for yet another tough one on Friday.”
