Five wrestlers from 210 Prep Sports programs won individual titles at the two-day Upland Blackwatch Tournament.
That list includes South Hills’ Kayden Vasquez & Dario Ruiz, Etiwanda’s Azuan Gonzales-Rice & Carlos Sutton & Damien’s Nathaniel Solorio.
Etiwanda (243.5) finished in second place just 4.5 team points behind Birmingham (248).
EHS totaled 11 placers.
South Hills (161) placed fourth as a program thanks to its eight placers, including a pair of champs.
Nathaniel Solorio earned the 113-pound by securing a tech fall (20-3) over Etiwanda’s Deegan Bell.
Solorio pinned two opponents and secured a pair of tech falls.
Kayden Vasquez stuck Birmingham’s Maxim Sim at 4:37 of their 126-pound title bout.
Vasquez pinned all four of his opponents, and he was named the lower-weight MVP.
Dario Ruiz secured his (165-pound) championship with a 10-1 major decision over Los Osos’ Aiden Patti.
Ruiz pinned his first two opponents, and then he secured major decisions in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds.
Azuan Gonzales-Rice defeated Sultana’s Jackson Humphrey, 6-3, to earn the 132-pound crown.
Gonzales-Rice won three of his five matches via tech fall, as well as one pin and the major in the finals.
Carlos Sutton made short work of Montclair’s George Llamas with a pin in 90 seconds in their heavyweight title bout.
Sutton pinned all five of his opponents, and only Andrew De La Torre (Moreno Valley) made it to the second period.
