Football:
Rancho Cucamonga opened the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs at home against No. 16 in the state (MaxPreps) Tustin.
And the 28th-ranked Cougars dropped a 45-8 ass kicking on their visitors.
RCHS scored the game’s first 17 points.
The Tillers lone score was a 76-yard pick-six by THS freshman safety, Kingston Fatu, with 2:45 remaining in the first half.
Jacob Chambers completed 10-of-20 for 130 yards.
That included a 35-yard TD pass to James Strong with 50 seconds to play in the first half.
Chambers also scored on a 5-yard TD run early in the fourth.
Strong led the Cougars ground game with 75 yards on 11 carries.
His 3-yard TD run midway through the second quarter extended the RCHS lead to 17-0.
Strong also had three receptions for 56 yards.
Dillon Sykes caught a 9-yard TD pass from backup quarterback, Treyvone Towns.
Sykes finished with five receptions for 66 yards.
Tyree Wilson had a 36-yard TD run, and Semaj Stewart’s 11-yard TD run three minutes in gave the Cougars a 7-0 advantage.
Darion Fluker recovered a pair of fumbles for RCHS.
Romano Annecchini booted a 23-yard field goal in the 10-point first quarter.
Up next: The Cougars will host Murrieta Valley on Friday at 7.
The Nighthawks (8-3) secured a 35-14 victory over their visitors from Corona del Mar.
