Chaffey College fell to 1-6 on Saturday evening after its 34-31 loss to their visitors from Mt. San Jacinto in double overtime.
The Panthers both saved the game on a number of occasions and shot themselves in the foot with a brutal lack of discipline in some crucial moments.
With three seconds remaining in regulation and the game tied at 28-28, MSJC had the ball at approximately the one-inch line.
Instead of kicking the shortest field goal in college football history, the Eagles went for the TD.
Unfortunately for them, the Panthers ‘D’ didn’t give, and they forced overtime.
After Chaffey and Mt. San Jacinto traded field goals in the first overtime period, the Panthers forced the Eagles to settle for another field goal in double OT.
Trailing 34-31, it looked as if the Panthers were going to put the game on ice with a game-ending TD drive.
However, Evan Powell, who rallied the Panthers late with scoring plays with his right arm and legs, tossed a pass into the west end zone and a Mt. San Jacinto defender picked the pass to set off a celebration on the visitors’ sidelines.
