Volleyball:

It never gets old to win a league title.

On Monday, Glendora secured a share of the Palomares League championship with Claremont after its four-set victory at Bonita.

The Tartans dropped the first set in the regular season finale.

But they would roar back to clinch a fifth consecutive league crown.

GHS won by scores of 19-25, 25-13, 25-23 and 25-18.

The Wolfpack swept the Tartans head-to-head, so if GHS and CHS are in the same CIF-SS playoff division, Claremont would get the No. 1 seed out of the Palomares.

However, most expect different divisions, which means they’d both enter the postseason as No. 1 seeds out of the Palomares League.

Camilla Swain led the way with 10 kills, four blocks and a pair of digs.

Sam Oliver chipped in with eight kills, six digs and an assist.

Valentina Zurla added seven kills, one dig and a block.

Emily Barrios had four kills and 14 digs.

Kaleia Zeits contributed 28 digs, six aces and five assists.

For Bonita, junior Sara Years provided 13 kills, seven digs, a block and one ace.

Sophomore Elle Howie chipped in with 11 kills and a pair of digs.

Sophomore Cassidy Howard finished with 29 assists, three kills, four aces and a block.

Up next: The Tartans will get their first-round CIF-SS playoff opponent on Saturday morning at 9.

The Bearcats finished tied for last place with Walnut.

They finished the season on a six-match losing streak and having lost eight of their last nine.

Quotable:

GHS coach, Erin Noriega: “It always feels good to win or even share the league title, five in a row feels pretty good. This one was hard fought to say the least, but we are feeling like we are prepared to head into playoffs. We have been improving on some weaknesses and continuing to grow our game.”

Bonita’s assistant coach, Megan Skinner: “We started strong and then our serve-receive struggles popped up and definitely cost us an opportunity to finish the season with a win.”
