La Salle made some history on Thursday.
The Lancers secured at least a share of the Camino Real League title.
The girls from Pasadena claimed 45-stroke victory over Bishop Conaty at Eaton Canyon Golf Course.
The official score was 237-282.
The Lancers were led by senior, Samantha Hu who shot a 38.
Sarah Tutundjian finished with a 43.
Five seniors got to play in the match, including Samantha Hu, Angela Zhou, Reese Names, Kealani Paston, and Siena Zuniga.
Up next: The Lancers battle Bishop Amat on Wednesday at Santa Anita.
And there’s nothing less than an outright Camino Real League title at stake.
Record: La Salle (10-3, 9-0)
Quotable:
La Salle coach, Ed O’Connor: “I knew from last spring that we would have a very solid team. Sarah Tutundjian, who is a sophomore, did not play golf last year, and she was opting in. After seeing her play a few rounds, I knew she would add to a solid returning team of seniors, Samantha Hu and Karolina Azula, along with junior Amber Li. This gives us four golfers who can score pretty well. For La Salle, we do not have that superstar player who is going to shoot even par or better almost every time they play; rather, we have 4-5 golfers who will shoot from 2 over par to bogey golf. For the league we play in and the division that we will probably end up in, this gives us a great chance to do well. Our three non-league losses would probably all be wins if we played those teams with a full lineup. We have only had our first team in once the entire year. Amber, who is one of our top players, has only played in half of the league matches, as she is committed to a few other activities, as well as her studies. I believe when we play in the CIF tournament (probably division 3 or 4), if the team plays like they are capable, we have a great chance at a top 3 finish. That isn’t until the first week of November, so we have time to focus on areas of growth. In the meantime, we have our final league match on Wednesday, October 15, against Bishop Amat. If we win that match, we win the league outright.”
