Football:
Welcome back to the big time, Noah.
It took several weeks of recuperating from a week-zero rib injury for Rio Hondo Prep’s Noah Penunuri to look like the game changer he is.
And the Kares senior had his best game of the 2025 season some 1,200 miles from home.
RHP had a 465-175 advantage in rushing, and they cruised to a 49-28 victory at First Baptist in Dallas.
The Saints (4-2) entered the game at No. 1 in Texas’ Division Tapps IV rankings.
Penunuri carried the ball 20 times for 261 yards.
In fact, for those watching the game on YouTube from the First Baptist feed, you could hear the announcer say “Noah Pah-new-nuh-ree” has outscored First Baptist, 28-14, in the first half.
In all, Penunuri had TD runs of 65, 6, 41, 21 and 35 yards.
Nathaniel Shine had a great night with 78 yards on eight carries.
Shine scored on TD runs of 12 and 6 yards.
Deven Gomez gained 75 yards on three carries, and Christian Lee totaled 33 yards on five carries.
Tyler Dang had a 25-yard carry or the Kares.
Yanick Diaz only attempted two passes, including a 17-yard completion to Penunuri.
First Baptist had a 264-17-yard advantage through the air.
Dylan Jones went 20-of-40 for 238 yards.
Jones hooked up with Lincoln Schleif on a 3-yard TD pass to pull the Saints to within 14-7 of RHP.
George Anagnostis gained 87 yards on 13 carries, including an 11-yard TD run late in the third quarter.
Anagnostis also tossed a 28-yard scoring strike to Eddy Proctor with 3:52 to play.
Schleif had six receptions for 48 yards.
Antonio Cobb caught four passes for 78 yards.
Case Lambeth totaled 52 receiving yards on three receptions.
Christian Lee had a game-high nine tackles, while Penunuri had eight.
Troy Seto (6 tackles), Elias Har (5), Rainn Pollock (5), Calogero Chico (5), Aiden Delgadillo (5), Matt Montez (4) and Elijah Gavia (4) combined for 34 tackles.
Adrian Mendoza picked a pass for the RHP defense.
The Saints had a 16-second advantage in the time of possession battle.
RHP played a much more disciplined brand of football.
They were charged with six penalties for 45 yards, while First Baptist was flagged 14 times for 120 yards.
Up next: The Kares will take next week off, and, on 10/17, RHP will travel to Viewpoint in the Gold Coast League opener.
