College Football:
Mt. SAC opened the 2025 season with a 45-20 victory at Cerritos.
The Mounties actually trailed three times in the first half.
However, MSAC would close out the win on a 31-0 run.
Some of the stats were closer than the final score might indicate.
The Mounties had narrow advantages in first downs (25-23) and total offense (449-441).
Cerritos took 7-0 and 14-7 first quarter leads thanks to a 30-yard TD pass from Jeremiah Calvin to Malachi Wright, and an 11-yard TD run by Calvin.
With 9:16 to play in the half, Josh Cason sprinted in from six yards out.
It gave the Falcons a 20-14 lead.
But the Mounties defense held Cerritos scoreless the rest of the way.
Mt. SAC got TD passes of 63, 53 and 8 yards from Hunter Herrera.
Herrera completed 16-of-24 for 298 yards.
He tossed the three TD passes and didn’t turn the ball over.
Damien Smith gained 45 yards on 10 carries, including a 9-yard TD run late in the third quarter.
Aiden Ramos only rushed for 19 yards on nine carries, but he had TD runs of 2 and 8 yards.
Devon Anderson led the MSAC receiving corps with 112 yards on 12 catches, including a TD reception of 53 yards.
Damari Wiggins had two receptions for 72 yards, most of which came on his 63-yard TD reception in the first quarter.
Bronseman Davis collected five catches for 48 yards.
Calvin completed 27-of-31 for 321 yards and one score.
Josh Cason and Nick Adimora combined to gain 47 yards on 19 carries for the Falcons.
Malachi Wright had seven receptions for 95 yards.
Charles Clinton reeled in seven passes for 62 yards.
Saxon Va’a had four catches for 67 yards.
Teyondre Coleman had a game-high nine tackles for Mt. SAC.
Michael Young finished with seven tackles and Jeremiah Faustin had five.
Adrian Castro led Cerritos with seven tackles, while Danny Washington, Ezra Mueller, Keion Andrew, DeVaughn Garner-Egans and Clarence Chaney provided five tackles apiece.
Kenneth Junger-Porta closed out the scoring with a 22-yard field goal with 2:04 to play.
Up next: The Mounties host El Camino next Saturday at 6 in their home opener.
