Football:

The quarterbacking resume of Isaiah Arriaza added yet another accolade to that long list of superlatives on Friday night in South Orange County.

After falling behind early (14-6), Arriaza would rally Damien to a 34-31 victory at JSerra in San Juan Capistrano.

The Spartans senior completed 28 of his 44 pass attempts (64-percent) for 414 yards.

That averages out to 16 yards per completion.

Arriaza tossed a pair of TD passes and no picks.

Just two games into his senior campaign, No. 7 in green and his boys have gone 18-6 since he took over the quarterbacking duties in 2023.

That is a program best this century.

DHS was also able establish their run game.

Three Spartans combined to gain 141 yards on 22 carries and one TD.

Malachi McFarland led the way.

McFarland gained 122 yards on 22 carries, including one score.

Eric Osorio is off to the best statistical start of any SGV area receiver.

In last week’s victory at Aquinas, Osorio caught 11 passes for 157 yards.

Last night, the DHS senior reeled in 13 receptions for 213 yards and one TD.

Travon Garrison had five receptions for 62 yards and one score.

Raymond Ahumada totaled five catches of his own for 67 yards.

Gavin Williams (2-for-38), Xavier Keyzers (1-for-22) and Malachi McFarland (2-for-12) combined to total five receptions for 82 yards.

Freshman Christian Wallace led the Damien defense with eight tackles.

Dupri Stevenson-Dorsey had one pick for the Spartans.

Up next: The Spartans will welcome St. Paul on Friday at 7 in the 2025 home opener.

Last night, the Swordsmen (0-2) were on the wrong end of a 59-14 beatdown at the hands of their visitors from Mission Viejo.

So far, St. Paul has fallen to Bishop Amat and Mission Viejo by a combined margin of 101-28.
