Baseball:
Marshall scored once in the top of the seventh and Caleb Thatcher made that stand up in a 1-0 victory at Santa Fe in the quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
In the top of the first inning, Thatcher led off with a walk off his SFHS counterpart, James Rubio.
Trevor Lain followed with a single.
And Ryan Pandullo singled home Thatcher for what turned out to be the only run of the game.
Rubio went all seven, and he was charged with one run on three hits.
Rubio issued one walk and registered three strikeouts.
Sandro DiClaudio single to account for the other MHS base hit on Friday.
Thatcher tossed a six-hit shutout.
The Marshall senior walked three and struck out seven Santa Fe batters.
Julian Valdez, James Oregon, Sebastian Macias, Antonio Garcia, Matthew Leiva and Jesse Gonzalez had one hit apiece for the Chiefs.
Up next: The Eagles host Heritage Christian on Tuesday at 3:15.
The Warriors (22-8-1) claimed a 7-3 victory at Montebello in their quarterfinal round contest.
