Etiwanda was seven outs away from a season ending loss to Servite of the famous Trinity League in Friday’s CIF-SS Division 2 quarterfinal in Rancho Cucamonga.
The Eagles trailed 3-0 with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.
However, EHS scored once in the fifth and seven times in the sixth to pull away from the Friars in an 8-3 victory.
Michael Aleman recovered from a three-run second inning to shut Servite out the rest of the way.
Aleman was responsible for three runs on nine hits over seven innings.
He issued three walks and registered six strikeouts.
Tomas Cernius and Michael Cabral both went 2-for-4 with one RBI apiece.
Avery Jones drew a pair of walks, singled, scored and had one RBI.
Carlos Ramos walked, singled and scored.
Hayden Woodson and Austin Boatright had one single apiece for the Friars.
Tony Kwon went five innings, and he was charged with one run on five hits.
Kwon walked two and fanned eight EHS batters.
Shane Wendler got the loss after surrendering seven runs on five hits and a pair of walks.
Derick Kim’s two-out RBI single in the fifth got Etiwanda on the board.
In the sixth, LJ Roellig’s two-run HR got the Eagles even at 3-3.
Five batters later, Kim’s three-run triple gave EHS its first lead of the game at 6-3.
Josh Adams followed one batter later with a two-run HR.
Angel Mejia singled, doubled and scored.
Ryan Severns, Jaeden Toki and Frank Gonzales singled and scored one run apiece.
James Milam walked and scored.
Luke Mendoza drew a pair of walks and singled.
