Softball:
Ayala earned a spot in Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 1 semifinal round.
The Bulldogs outlasted their hosts from La Mirada, 9-5, in nine innings.
AHS scored once in the sixth, twice in the seventh, and they put the game away with four ninth inning runs.
Ayala out-hit La Mirada, 18-7.
In fact, the Bulldogs had more extra-base hits (9) than LMHS had hits.
Allie Lukaszewicz and Lilanna Acosta teamed up in the circle in Wednesday’s road win.
Lukaszewicz went four innings, and she was charged with three runs on four hits.
Acosta provided five innings, and she allowed two runs on two hits.
Neither Lukaszewicz or Acosta issued a walk, and they combined to strike out five La Mirada batters.
Offensively, Jocelyn Escobedo went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs and one RBI.
McKenzie Becerra walked, doubled, homered scored and drove in a pair of runs.
Jordyn Balingit doubled and had two RBIs.
Viviana Jilek was hit by pitch, singled, doubled and drove in one.
Jayden Tamura went 2-for-5 with a solo home run.
Taelor Walker, singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Acosta singled and doubled.
Zoey Hipolito, Mariah Holguin and Madison Caganap scored one run apiece.
Marisa Dominguez had one single in the win.
Up next: The Bulldogs will battle top-seeded Norco in Saturday’s D-1 semifinal.
The Cougars (27-3) claimed a 9-1 victory over their visitors from Chino Hills on Wednesday.
