Ryan Pandullo’s Grand Slam Sparks Marshall to a 6-4 Victory Over Cerritos in Second Round of CIF-SS Division 6 Playoffs

Things didn’t look good early for Marshall in Tuesday’s second round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

Cerritos scored four times in the top of the first inning.

The Eagles, however, scored twice in the bottom of the first, and they got four more in the fifth to claim a 6-4 victory over the Dons.

Cerritos got four runs (one earned) on four hits off Nate Callaway in three innings.

Callaway walked four and struck out three.

Michael Gerst got the win after going 3 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings to earn the win.

Gerst walked four and struck out three.

Caleb Thatcher got the final two outs (both via strikeout) to earn the save.

Braxton Reed walked, tripled and scored.

Dalton Chi drew two walks, singled and scored.

Adrian Regis and Alex Laurin both went 1-for-3 with one RBI apiece.

Kaden Brickner drew a pair of walks and scored.

Frank Melendez got the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) on two hits over four innings.

Melendez issued four walks and registered three strikeouts.

Jacob Hoosac provided two innings in relief, and he was responsible for one run on one hit.

He didn’t give a free pass and fanned three MHS batters.

The game’s defining moment was a fourth-inning grand slam by Ryan Pandullo.

It was his first home run of the season.

Thatcher singled and scored a pair of runs.

Trevor Lain drew a pair of walks and scored two runs.

Sandro DiClaudio singled and scored.

Callaway drove in a run in the bottom of the first on a sac fly.

Up next: The Eagles travel to Santa Fe on Friday at 3:15.

The Chiefs (15-16) defeated their hosts from Burroughs of Ridgecrest, 11-5, on Tuesday.
