Rio Hondo Prep scored twice in the top of the first inning, and they never trailed in Saturday’s 16-6 mercy rule victory at St. Monica in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
The Kares had a narrow 12-9 advantage in base hits in the six-inning contest.
Allie Scott went the first three innings, allowing five runs on six hits.
Scott walked three and fanned one.
Bryce Johnson got the final nine outs, and she was responsible for one run on three hits.
Katrina Olmedo tripled, homered, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Bella Urbina went 3-for-4 with a double, run and one RBI.
Savanna Hernandez doubled and scored.
Sanai Lambert went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Milena Valdez had an RBI single.
Bella Hernandez and Megan Garcia walked and scored one run apiece.
Urbina got the loss after surrendering 15 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Urbina issued five walks and registered seven strikeouts.
Tara Riley went 3-for-4 with a walk, four runs, an RBI single and a solo inside-the-park home run.
Madison Burl drew three walks, had a two-run inside-the-park home run and scored three times.
Bella Fairley had an RBI single, a two-run triple and scored.
Evonny Ortega went 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
Allie Scott singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Ryen Covey went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and two RBIs.
Bryce Johnson singled and scored.
Leah Rodriguez and Zoey Chen scored one run apiece.
Up next: The Kares will host Katella on Wednesday at 3:15 in a quarterfinal round contest.
The Knights (14-13) defeated Vazquez, 7-4, on Saturday.
