Monrovia earned a spot in Tuesday’s second round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs thanks to a 5-3 victory over Capistrano Valley Christian on Friday.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the first and they never trailed.
MHS had a 5-1 lead before CVC scored twice in the top of the seventh.
James Quesenbery went six-plus innings, and he was charged with two runs on four hits.
Quesenbery walked five and struck out three CVC batters.
Sutton Powers got the final three outs, and he surrendered one run on two hits.
Powers didn’t give a free pass and struck out one.
Offensively, Isaias Hernandez went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and an RBI double.
Troy Grise walked, scored and Josh Griffiths made it home from second on Grise’s bunt and the throw to first
Sully Zinn walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Griffiths singled and scored.
Tristan Oandasan doubled, and Lincoln Johnson scored on a pair of wild pitches.

The Tritons (20-9) cruised to an 8-0 victory over their visitors from Cal High in Friday’s first round contest.
