Baseball:
Had someone told you that two of the four Palomares League programs would still be alive in the second round of the CIF-SS playoffs, the smart money would be on Ayala and Bonita.
And of course, D-1 and D-2 are tougher draws.
But the league’s two victors in the first round of the postseason turned out to be third place Glendora and fourth place Claremont.
The Tartans earned a 4-1 victory at Citrus Valley on Thursday in D-3 action, and one day later, the Wolfpack left Apple Valley with a 2-1 D-4 triumph over the Sun Devils.
Wyatt Green put CHS on his shoulders.
The CHS senior went the distance, allowing just an unearned run on four hits.

Sixty-six of his 102 pitches were strikes.
Aril Jackson singled twice and scored.
Drew Wilson collected a pair of singles.
Christopher Alvarez got the loss in spite of allowing a pair of unearned runs on three hits over his complete game effort.
Alvarez walked one and fanned a pair of CHS batters.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth, two Claremont batters reached base on errors.
CHS tied the game on a ground ball that went for a double play.
And two batters later, Luke Porras singled in a run.
