Glendora won its first CIF-SS playoff game since 2019 on Thursday afternoon.
The Tartans made the 43-mile trek to Redlands and handed their hosts from Citrus Valley a 4-1 season-ending loss.
Brayden Johnson went the distance to secure the win.
With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Nate Castillo doubled.
Castillo would advance to third on a passed ball, and Cole West’s RBI ground out gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead.
Johnson, however, would shut CVHS down the rest of the way.
He scattered three hits, issued a pair of walks and registered 10 strikeouts.
Johnson needed 105 pitches to finish what he started.
Castillo had two of Citrus Valley’s three hits.
West had the other.
Nolan Tornberg got the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.
He walked one and fanned four GHS batters.
With one out in the top of the third, Glendora evened the game at 1-1, when Kai Zeits reached second on an error, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a wild pitch.
One inning later, Tanner Grable had a one-out single.
Mason Danison moved him to second with a sac bunt.
And Aidan Yamazaki’s RBI single to right gave the Tartans a 2-1 lead.
Daniel Conness had a huge two-out two-run single in the top of the sixth to give GHS a pair of insurance runs.
Grable went 3-for-3 and scored half of Glendora’s four runs.
Zeits singled and scored.
Yamazaki went 3-for-3 with the RBI.
Danison singled and scored.
