Etiwanda Gets Two in the Sixth & One in the Seventh to Edge Winless Upland, 3-2; Eagles Still in Contention in Baseline League Chase

Baseball:

Etiwanda narrowly dodged a land mine on Friday.

The Eagles, who stand one-game out of second place in the Baseline League standings behind (first place) Los Osos and (second place) RCHS, respectively, trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning against an Upland squad that was 0-11 in league games.

EHS responded with two in the sixth and they won on a walk-off error by a Highlanders’ outfielder to claim a 3-2 victory, and in the process, they swept the three-game series.

Nico Hamilton went four innings, allowing two runs on six hits.

Hamilton didn’t issue a walk, and he fanned three UHS batters.

Jaxson Milius got the win after going three scoreless innings and scattering three hits.

Milius had no walks, and he struck out four.

Nick Serna went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI double.

Dom Nava had a pair of singles, including an RBI hit in the two-run fourth inning.

Elliot Cresap singled and scored.

Carson Kinnick, Luke Luevano, Darien Maung and Ryan May had one hit apiece.

Issac Carlos had a solid outing, going six and allowing two runs on five hits.

Carlos walked two and fanned four EHS batters.

Cresap got the loss after surrendering an unearned run on a walk, hit batter and an error in 2/3 of an inning.

Derick Kim went 2-for-3 and his RBI single in the bottom of the sixth got Etiwanda to within 2-1 of the Highlanders.

Luke Mendoza tied the game with his sixth-inning sac fly.

Jaeden Toki doubled and scored, and his fly ball in the seventh was misplayed and allowed the Eagles to score the winning run.

James Milam walked and scored.

Frank Gonzales and Angel Mejia singled.

Dominic Rodriguez and Ryan Severns scored one run apiece.

Up next: EHS battles first place LOHS on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the final week of the regular season.
