Baseball:
South Hills will secure an outright Hacienda League championship.
With three games to play, the Huskies hold a three-game lead over second place Colony.
SHHS had to work overtime to claim a 5-4 victory in nine innings at CHS.
South Hills scored three in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead.
Colony answered back with four runs in the bottom half of the seventh to force extra innings.
And Paxton Czubek’s sac fly drove in Ayden Vieth with the eventual game win running.
Joseph Moreno went five scoreless innings and scattered three hits.
Moreno issued one walk and registered six strikeouts.
Justin Romero was charged with four unearned runs on four hits.
Zack Escalera earned the win after two scoreless innings in relief and allowing just one hit.
Escalera got four of his six outs via strikeout.
Jared Coleman got CHS on the board with a sac fly.
Jeremy Guadian went 2-for-3, and he tied the score with his three-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Ricardo Zazueta singled twice and tripled.
Aidan Castro and Angel Serna singled and scored one run apiece.
Steven Gonzales went four scoreless innings and scattered four hits.
Gonzales walked one and fanned five Huskies’ batters.
Michael Huicochea was charged with three runs on three hits over one inning.
Huicochea issued one walk and struck out two.
AJ Rangel got the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits and a pair of walks over three innings of work.
Rangel totaled four strikeouts.
Escalera also did his part at the plate.
He went 4-for-5 with a double and one run.
Czubek didn’t collect a hit, but he drove in three runs on the above-mentioned sac fly, and he walked and was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Carson Baker had an RBI single.
Ayden Vieth walked, was hit by pitch, singled and scored two runs.
Gabriel Guerrero walked and tripled.
Diego Villarreal went 3-for-5 with a double and one run.
Victor Merlos singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Robert Brown scored once.
Up next: The Huskies will travel to Colony on Friday at 3:30.
