Baseball:
La Salle hadn’t defeated Bishop Amat in a baseball game since May 27th of 2021.
It was a 5-4 road victory.
Fast forward four years, and the Lancers opened their three-game Del Rey League set with a 6-5 victory in La Puente.
It snapped a nine-game losing streak.
Amat scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the first inning.
La Salle scored twice in the top of the seventh to pull it off.
And the finish couldn’t have been more dramatic.
BAHS had the bases loaded and one out, and with Andrew Luna on the mound, Santiago Ramirez lined into a double play.
Both programs had 11 hits, two errors and used three pitchers apiece.
Izaac Muniz went five innings for Amat, and he was charged with four runs (three earned) on eight hits.
Muniz walked a pair and struck out five.
Ryan Alvarez was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs on two hits and a walk over one inning.
Alvarez struck out a pair of Lancers.
Trailing 5-4, Peter Callihan and Drew Ward opened the top of the seventh inning with consecutive singles.
Luna bunted the runners up one base.
Callihan scored on a wild pitch, and Frane Flores’ RBI single plated Ward for what turned out to be the game winning run.
Callihan finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.
Travis Ochoa walked, singled twice and drove in a run.
Andrew Klein singled and scored.
Chris Cardenas went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
Ward drew a walk to go with his single and run scored.
Luna drove in a run on a sac fly.
Aidan Gray collected a pair of singles.
Isaiah Romero went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
Nico Armendariz went one inning for La Salle, and he was charged with five runs (four earned) on four hits.
Armendariz walked one and fanned a pair of Amat batters.
Morgan Sullivan provided three scoreless innings in relief and allowed two hits.
Sullivan walked four and struck out two.
Luna earned the win after three scoreless innings and scattering five hits.
Luna issued two walks and registered one strikeout.
Diego Briones went 2-for-4 with a solo HR.
Levi Altamirano walked, singled twice and scored.
Jacob Campos drew four walks and scored one run from the leadoff spot.
Omar Arretche walked, tripled in two and scored.
Roman Spencer collected three singles.
Justin Peinado walked and singled.
Santiago Ramirez had an RBI triple and scored.
AJ Jara had one hit for Amat.
