Baseball:

Monrovia self-destructed at the worst possible time.

The Wildcats opened the day atop the Rio Hondo League standings.

However, an error to begin and end the bottom of the seventh cost MHS in a 4-3 loss at La Canada.

The loss bounced Monrovia out of the RHL penthouse.

San Marino took over sole possession of first place after the Titans defeated Temple City, 3-1, on Monday afternoon.

But back to Monday’s MHS-LCHS showdown.

Trailing 2-1, La Canada scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Ross Piken got the win after going a scoreless and hitless seventh inning for the Spartans.

Isaias Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a double, run and one RBI.

Josh Griffiths walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.

Kaleb Ellison went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
