Baseball:

Claremont just made the Palomares League title chase a lot more dramatic.

The Wolfpack claimed a 3-1 victory at Ayala to hand the Bulldogs their first league loss in 2025.

AHS now leads second place Bonita by one-half a game.

BHS trailed Glendora, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning on Saturday morning when rain forced the game’s postponement until Monday.

The Bearcats and Bulldogs meet up for a three-game set starting Tuesday in La Verne.

But back to Saturday’s game.

Wyatt Green went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits.

Green issued one walk and struck out three AHS batters.

Green’s final out came on his 111th pitch.

Elijah Duarte went 2-for-2, including an RBI single in the bottom of the second to even the game at 1-1.

Duarte also drew the one walk off Green.

Codey Brown singled and scored.

Brody Gomez doubled, while Aidan Erlandsen Dylan Wood and Caleb Trugman had one single apiece for the Bulldogs.

Jaden Valenzuela went two innings, and he allowed one run on two hits and a walk.

Hayden Hovey got the loss, in spite of allowing just an unearned run on one hit over three innings.

Hovey issued one walk and registered two strikeouts.

Isaac Huver went two innings and surrendered one run on three hits and a walk.

Cory Smykla walked, doubled and scored.

Ramzey Farah walked and doubled.

Thomas Plotkin and Aiden Leslie singled and scored one run apiece.

Green helped his own cause with a sac fly in the top of the second inning to give CHS a 1-0 lead.

Green also reached on a bunt, and an error on the play allowed Leslie to score.

Ryan Elias’ RBI single in the top of the sixth gave Claremont an extra insurance run.

Luke Porras doubled for the Wolfpack.

Quotable:

Claremont coach, Brian Dorman: “I’m so proud of our team. Wyatt had a great outing on the mound, and we played great defense behind him. Ayala is a great team, and our guys stepped it up today. This is a big win for our team and our program.”

Claremont pitcher, Wyatt Green: “My mindset was to attack the hitters with the fastball, and to keep them off balance. All four pitches were working, but I would say my slider was the best today.”
