Baseball:

In a span of three days, Etiwanda has shaken up the Baseline League race.

Rancho Cucamonga entered the series 6-0, but the Eagles have back-to-back wins of 8-2, and 1-0, respectively.

On Wednesday, Michael Aleman tossed a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Cougars in eight innings.

Aleman issued a pair of walks and registered nine strikeouts.

He had some work to do to get out of the eighth inning.

Jared Mock reached base and then onto second thanks to an EHS error.

Richie Duran bunted Mock to third to give RCHS a shot of tying up the game.

However, Aleman induced a ground ball off the bat of Rowan Suchanek to third, and Jaeden Toki tossed Mock out at the plate for the second out.

The call at the plate was reportedly controversial based on which side you were rooting for.

Aleman closed out the win by getting Brock Foulds to fly out to center.

The EHS sophomore needed 92 pitches to finish what he started, and 61 were strikes.

It’s his second consecutive league shutout on the mound.

Beau Briggs doubled, and Jacob Peyton singled to account for the Rancho Cucamonga offense.

Mason Sanchez started and went 5 2/3 scoreless innings, and he scattered three hits.

Sanchez walked one and fanned a trio of Eagles.

Justin Stansbury got the loss after allowing the game’s lone run.

Stansbury went 2 1/3 innings, and he surrendered one run on three hits.

Stansbury walked a pair and struck out one EHS batter.

Jaeden Toki led off the top of the eighth with a double.

Derick Kim moved Toki over to third with his ground out to the right side of the Rancho Cucamonga infield.

And Luke Mendoza plated Toki on a sac fly to right field.

Toki finished 2-for-4 with the run.

Angel Mejia walked and singled.

Frank Gonzales drew a pair of walks and singled.

Jack Holguin and Ryan Severns had one hit apiece for the Eagles.
