Holguin Goes 5 1/3 IP, Allows 2 Unearned Runs & Struck Out 7 in Etiwanda’s 8-2 Victory Over RCHS; EHS Scored 7 Times in 6th Inning

Baseball:

After six consecutive wins to start league play, Etiwanda is the first program to hand Rancho Cucamonga its first Baseline League setback.

Jack Holguin wasn’t in on the decision, but make no mistake about it, the Eagles’ senior did the heavy lifting.

Holguin went 5 1/3 and he was charged with a pair of unearned runs on four hits in EHS’ 8-2 victory over the visiting Cougars.

Holguin issued four walks and registered seven strikeouts.

Noah Frias was credited with the win after going 1 2/3 of scoreless and hitless innings in relief.

Frias walked one and fanned a pair of RCHS batters.

Aiden Bravo had half of Rancho Cucamonga’s four hits.

Beau Briggs doubled and scored.

Richie Duran singled.

Jared Sclafani scored once in the loss.

Brock Foulds was saddled with the loss after surrendering five runs (three earned) on five its over 5 1/3 innings.

Foulds walked a pair and struck out seven EHS batters.

Etiwanda got to Grant Thomas for three runs on one hit, a walk and two hit batters without retiring a batter.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jaeden Toki singled and Derick Kim reached base on an error.

Angel Mejia got the Eagles even at 2-2 with an RBI single.

Luke Mendoza gave EHS a 3-2 lead with his sac fly to right field.

After a walk and a single, James Milam drew a bases loaded walk.

After scoring on a wild pitch, Ryan Severns, Josh Adams and Jaeden Toki were all hit by pitches with the bases full.

Adams finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Mejia scored twice.

LJ Roellig went 1-for-2 with a run and one RBI.

Milam drew a pair of walks, scored and had one RBI.

Kim singled once in Monday’s win.

I wanted them to put the ball in play, because I knew my defense would have my back. My fastball and curve were definitely the two pitches that were working the most for me today.”
