Baseball:
Rio Hondo Prep can do no worse than co-champions of the Prep League.
The Kares edged their rivals from Pasadena Poly, 3-2, for the second time in 48 hours.
With two regular season games to play, RHP has a two-game lead (in the loss column) over Providence and Flintridge Prep.
The Kares also extended their current win streak to 12 games.
RHP also has seven more wins (14-2) in 2025 than does their next closest league opponent (Providence).
Julian Rodriguez went the distance to earn the win.
Rodriguez allowed a pair of unearned runs on three hits.
He issued one walk and registered six strikeouts.
Of his 92 pitches on Thursday, 62 were strikes.
Alex Chui had an RBI double in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
Jack Schugren walked and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Caiden Kennedy and Luke Phillips had one single apiece.
Alejandro Kohn Rabassa and Harrison Unanue scored one run apiece.
Caiden Kennedy got the loss after allowing three runs on five hits over his complete game effort.
Kennedy issued two walks and registered nine strikeouts.
Elijah Gavia got the Kares on the board with his RBI single in the top of the first.
Trailing 2-1, Brayden Vinton had an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2 in the third inning.
Later that inning, Noah Penunuri, who also singled, drove in the game winning run on an RBI ground out.
Diego Householder walked and scored.
Calogero Chico went 2-for-3.
Nate Curtis and Easton Jara scored one run apiece.
