Baseball:
Bonita continues to keep pace with Ayala.
The Bearcats secured an 8-4 victory over Walnut on Thursday to take a 2-0 lead in their three-game series this week.
With seven Palomares League games to play, including three in the final week of the season against Ayala, BHS trails the Bulldogs by one game.
Bonita was locked in a 2-2 tie as they grabbed their bats in the bottom of the fourth inning.
BHS scored once in the fourth, and they got five more in the fifth to pull away.
The Bearcats out-hit the Mustangs, 8-4.
Daniel Nageer got the win after allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Nageer issued two walks and struck out six.
Evan Nguyen (2/3 IP) and Ryder Gibson (1) combined to get the final five outs, including four via strikeout.
Adam Lenero walked, singled and scored.
JJ Rodriguez and Jacob Rodriguez singled and scored one run apiece.
Eddie Chavez went 1-for-3 with a walk, run and one RBI.
Daniel Mejia had an RBI single.
Izeyah Rojas got the loss after surrendering five runs on 10 hits over four innings.
Rojas didn’t issue a walk and registered three strikeouts.
Cody White went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Dominic Garcia singled, doubled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.
Brady Horn went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Austin Banuelos and Josh Angely singled and scored one run apiece.
Andrew Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a double, run and one RBI.
Joaquin Covarrubias walked, singled and scored.
Parker Alexander was hit by pitch with the bases loaded and scored.
