Editor’s Note: I asked a couple times for programs to send me photos of their girls during Thursday’s session, but I didn’t have as much luck as I’d have liked. So, if you have photos from Thursday’s action, feel free to send to Brian@210PrepSports.com and I’ll post them.
Girls Wrestling:
Of the 14 girls competing from 210 Prep Sports programs, there were six athletes that made it through day one of the three-day CIF State Championships unbeaten.
That means they’re a first match win on Friday from a guaranteed spot on the podium.
Three of Northview’s eight state qualifiers find themselves in the championship bracket.
That includes Marci Cueva (130), Sumayo Lazaro (140) and Delarie Juarez (145).
Cueva earned a pair of decision victories, including a 23-18 victory over Yuba City’s Jaelyn White.
Lazaro got a win via forfeit in the first round, and then she pinned Freemont’s Haru Duus (Freemont) at 3:57.
Juarez secured a pair of first-period pins in her first two matches.
Glendora’s Samantha Sachs (130) cruised into the quarterfinals with pins in 1:02 and 1:31, respectively.
San Dimas’ Aubreyelle Baeza claimed a 10-6 decision in her first-round match, and she pinned her next opponent in 1:05.
SDHS heavyweight Charlene Smith had consecutive second-period pins to earn her quarterfinal spot.
None of the female contingency got eliminated.
A first-round loss on Thursday meant they only had one match, and they’ll fight for their lives starting on Friday morning at 9 am.
A win in the first round and a loss in the second also sets up a win-or-go-home first match on Friday morning.
Good luck to all of our girls.
