Football:

After the past two wins, you couldn’t blame Glendora or their fans if they believe in destiny.

The Tartans opened with a 31-7 blowout victory at Agoura in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

However, over the past two weeks, the Tartans have dug themselves a couple of holes.

Last Friday, GHS trailed 13-0 with approximately a minute remaining in the first half at Rancho Verde.

Glendora switched Sebastian Lawrence out and Brandon Coronado in, and the move sparked a 31-13 victory in Moreno Valley.

In Friday’s semifinal, Dana Hills took a 21-3 lead late into the third quarter.

Brandon Coronado, a sophomore, pulled the Tartans to within 21-10 after he connected with Tim Johnson on a 40-yard TD pass.

With 6:03 to play, Austin Coronado scored on a 4-yard TD run.

Coronado also converted the 2-point attempt, and GHS trailed, 21-18.

Glendora would get a defensive stop, but Brandon Coronado got injured midway through the fourth quarter.

Sebastian Lawrence, a freshman, came in and tossed a 13-yard TD pass to Johnson with 15 seconds to play for what turned out to be the game-winning points.

The win sets up a D-6 title-tilt with Murrieta Mesa next week.

It’s GHS’ first trip to the finals in 35 years.

Hunter Lemos booted a 34-yard field goal in the first quarter, and he went 2-for-2 on his extra-point attempts.

Brandon Coronado completed 13-of-20 for 123 yards, including the 40-yard score to Johnson.

Coronado also gained 57 yards on eight carries, and he had a fumble recovery on defense.

Lawrence only attempted two passes, but one of them included the game-winning toss to Johnson.

Austin Coronado carried the ball 14 times for 61 yards and one score.

Austin also forced a fumble at linebacker for the GHS defense.

Simon Zwick gained 55 yards on 11 carries.

Johnson had eight receptions for 88 yards and two scores.

Johnson also picked a pass on defense.

Caden Smith caught three passes for 34 yards.

Aspen Suprenant forced a fumble, and Nazir McGlothen had an interception.

Aiden Desormiers, Owen Walz and James Leicester caught TD passes of 9, 18 and 39 yards, respectively, from Dana Hills quarterback, Vanden Dugger.
