Football:
After starting 0-2 and residing in last place in the Sierra League standings, Glendora claimed its second consecutive league victory.
And both came in convincing form.
Last week, GHS cruised to a 35-7 victory over Claremont.
And tonight, the Tartans defeated Los Osos, 31-10, at LOHS.
They are now one-game back of third-place Colony with one game to play.
The Grizzlies and Tartans matched field goals in the third quarter.
Gabriel Scatena gave LOHS a 3-0 advantage when he booted a 22-yard field goal.
Six-plus minutes later, Glendora’s Hunter Lemos tied the game at 3-3 with a 30-yard field goal.
Four minutes into the second quarter, Austin Coronado gave GHS their first lead of the game at 10-3 after rumbling in from 28 yards out.
And the Tartans did not relinquish their lead.
Simon Zwick had a huge night.
Zwick carried the ball 17 times for 175 yards.
Zwick had TD runs of 68 and 2 yards.
Coronado scored a second TD on a 4-yard run, and he finished with 53 yards on nine carries.
Sebastian Lawrence completed 13-of-17 for 95 yards, and he tossed one interception.
Tim Johnson totaled seven receptions for 32 yards.
And the Tartans had to be ecstatic to see Caden Smith back from injury.
Smith caught three passes for 16 yards, and he did his part on the defensive side of the ball as well.
Aspen Suprenant had two receptions for 44 yards.
Brandon Coronado and Johnny Pina both picked off passes for the GHS defense.
Along with Scatena’s field goal, the LOHS offense got a third-quarter 15-yard TD pass from Zenen Pena to Jayce Ortiz.
It pulled the Grizzlies to within 17-10 of GHS.
But the Tartans closed out the game on a 14-0 run.
