Football:

La Canada visited Monrovia on Thursday night in the next to last Rio Hondo League contest of the 2024 season.

The Spartans entered the game as just one of three SGV area programs without a loss through week-eight games.

That list includes Northview (9-0) and Bonita (8-0).

LCHS was also facing a Wildcats defense that got run over last week in a nine-point loss to South Pasadena.

Fast forward one week, though, and MHS would hold La Canada to two TDs under their weekly scoring average in a 28-21 victory for the boys in green.

On the flip side, the Wildcats offense scored 18 points more than the Spartans defense had averaged surrendering in their first seven games.

The run-heavy Spartans didn’t reach the century mark on Thursday.

Jesse Saucedo completed 10-of-20 for 311 yards and three scores.

And that included a 75-yard TD pass to their senior stud, Joshua Griffiths.

Vince Paez finished with seven receptions for 191 yards and TD receptions of 65 and 25 yards.

Give La Canada its credit.

LCHS trailed 21-0 at the half and 28-7.

They would get as close to the 25-yard line late on Thursday but came up short on a fourth-down play.

Joe Bell went 13-of-22 for 208 yards, including two TD passes and a 2-yard TD run.

Bell tossed a 25-yard scoring strike to Jakob Kim, and a 48-yarder to Quest Swan.

Swan had a monster game with 120 receiving yards on seven catches.
