Football:
Chino Hills did itself and Damien a big favor on Thursday night.
The Huskies secured a 31-21 Baseline League victory over visiting Rancho Cucamonga.
Entering week-nine, RCHS and Damien were both 3-0, and they stood atop the Baseline League standings.
With the CHHS victory, and the Spartans 38-7 triumph over Ayala, DHS now stands alone in first place.
Additionally, the Huskies are now tied in second with RCHS, and they’ve earned a CIF-SS playoff berth.
CHHS controlled throughout, and they got massive production from their senior quarterback, Alex Medyn.
Medyn had TD runs of 8 and 1 yards.
And Medyn hooked up with Cameron Bateman on TD passes of 90 and 29 yards.
Noah Ahrari booted a 36-yard field goal in the third quarter to extend the CHHS lead to 17-7.
Keyonn Chatman scored two of Rancho Cucamonga TDs on runs of 3 and 4 yards.
Wavie Alloway caught a 30-yard TD pass from Jacob Chambers with 2:04 to play.
Unfortunately for RCHS, there wasn’t going to be enough time to make up a 10-point deficit.
It’s not all bad news for the Cougars, though.
If Rancho Cucamonga defeats visiting Damien next week, they’ll snag a share of the Baseline League championship.
