Football:
Covina took a 35-7 lead into the break of Friday’s week-eight contest at CDF.
And they would cruise to a 42-28 Hacienda League victory over Walnut.
CHS (7-1, 3-0) has won four consecutive games, and they remain atop the Hacienda League standings with Chino (3-5, 3-0).
The Mustangs outrushed the Colts, 344-193, but CHS was far more balanced offensively.
Jake Duronslet accounted for 306 yards of total offense.
Duronslet completed 14-of-20 for 246 yards, and that included a 34-yard TD pass to Matthew Chavez.
The CHS all-time leading passer also rushed for 60 yards on six carries, including the one below.
Kwame Parrish was back after a week off, and he carried the ball 17 times for 112 yards and two scores.
Gatsbee Gumban had 19 yards on three carries, and two of the three went for TDs.
Hines Soto (8-for-124) and Matthew Olivas (4-for-79) combined to catch 12 passes for 203 yards.
Nathan Simons had a rough night for WHS.
He went 4-for-12 for 50 yards and one interception.
Christopher Mardueno had game-highs in carries (19), yards (140) and rushing TDs (3).
Aamir Zayid gained 138 yards on 13 carries, and that included one score.
Jaynon Reed carried the ball six times for 49 yards.
