Girls Athletes of the Week:
Marshall Fundamental will be heading into the CIF-SS playoffs with momentum.
The Eagles went 3-0 this past week, including a pair of Mission Valley League victories.
MF defeated the Samueli Academy in four games, swept South El Monte, and they finished off the week with a four-game victory at Arroyo.
The Eagles have won their past four matches and eight of their last 10.
With one MVL game to play, Marshall (8-3) is tied for second with Rosemead.
One would have to like their chances of securing the No. 2 seed, because on Tuesday, Marshall hosts El Monte (5-11 overall, 3-6 in MVL matches), while Rosemead (9-10, 8-3) welcomes first-place Gabrielino (25-10, 9-0).
While every member of the Eagles lineup made significant contributions last week, the dynamic duo of Naomi Taylor and Livsey Teems led the way.
Taylor (41) and Teems (36) combined for 77 kills.
For the season, Teems leads the Eagles with 209 kills, and Taylor is a close second, with 192 kills.
On Monday, Teems’ best showing was a 19 kills’ and nine digs effort in the four-set win over the Samueli Academy.
And on Friday, Taylor’s 17 kills, six digs and five aces helped lead the Eagles to a Mission Valley League sweep at Arroyo.
