Mt. San Jacinto Edged Citrus, 21-16, on Saturday Night; Jamahl Wilson Rushed for a Game-High 120 Yards

Football:

Mt. San Jacinto edged their hosts from Citrus College, 21-16, on Saturday evening in Glendora.

Trailing 16-14, and with 3:55 to play, Logan Gonzalez tossed a 16-yard TD pass to Jackson Weng for what turned out to be the game winning points.

Gonzalez completed 16-of-33 for 206 yards.

He had two TD’s and no interceptions.

Gonzalez and Brye Lighon hooked up on a 28-yard TD at 6:36 of the second quarter to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead.

Christian Kretz caught three passes for 60 yards.

Koa Apana had five receptions for 57 yards, and Weng finished with 53 receiving yards on four carries and the one TD.

Citrus quarterback Koy Riggin had a rough game.

Riggin completed 9 of 20, didn’t toss a TD and he was picked three times.

Jamahl Wilson had another solid night with game-highs in carries (18) and rushing yards (120).

Wilson also had three receptions for 38 yards.

Hakim Haliburton carried the ball four times for 49 yards, and a 1-yard TD.

Emmanuel Mogbolu had 41 receiving yards on three catches.

The other nine Owls’ points came from a pair of kickers.

Lucas Mau had field goals of 23 and 32 yards.

And Ruben Jimenez booted a 34-yard field goal with 7:45 to play to give Citrus a temporary 16-13 lead.

Hunter Corbin led the Owls defense with nine tackles, and Jadakiss Vaokakala had seven.

Citrus actually had a 316-296 advantage in total offense, and that included a 172-81 edge in rushing yards.

Up next: The Owls host Grossmont next Saturday at 6.

Last night, the Griffins (1-1) secured a 24-12 victory over their visitors from Antelope Valley.
