Football:
Unlike the famous saying, Northview hopes what happens in Vegas follows them home to Covina.
The Vikings made a 245-mile drive to Sin City, and they came home with a 33-0 victory at Durango High School.
The last time we saw Erik Jimenez play, he left the field with an injury in a first-round playoff loss at Bonita.
Thankfully, the NHS senior signal caller is back, and he didn’t miss a beat.
In fact, the usually run-strong Vikings were tremendously balanced on Friday.
They had 428 yards of total offense.
Jimenez completed 13 of his 19 pass attempts for 226 yards.
He tossed three TD passes and wasn’t picked.
Keanu Tauvao anchored the Northview ground attack.
Tauvao carried the ball 18 times for 149 yards and two scores.
Noah Hinojosa had 34 yards rushing on just one carry.
Isaiah Lucero led the NHS receiving corps with eight catches for 155 yards and two TD’s.
Jaishon Bledsoe had a pair of receptions for 54 yards, including one score.
Tauvao caught two passes for 11 yards.
Daniel Garcia converted on three of his five extra-point attempts.
The Vikings defense held Durango to 197 yards of offense, with almost all of it coming on the ground.
Makai Miller carried the ball 18 times for 136 yards.
Maddex Peterson had a miserable day behind center.
Peterson completed 8-of-25 pass attempts for just 41 yards.
Up next: The Vikings meet up with South Hills on Thursday at Covina District Field.
The Huskies earned a 52-29 victory at Baldwin Park in their season opener.
