Baseball:
The San Gabriel Monarchs handed the Baseball Census Collegiate Summer League’s first-place program, the Arroyo Seco Sentinels, an 11-5 setback on Sunday.
The Monarchs scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and they led 9-3 after five.
Cadin Gates went four innings, and he allowed an unearned run on two hits.
Gates walked five and struck out three Sentinels.
Tommy Golbranson went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.
Jason Givens drew a walk, doubled, scored twice and drove in one run.
Josh Phillips walked twice, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Cider Canon singled and scored.
Doug Pyle walked, singled and scored.
Sergio Robles was charged with the loss after going three innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits.
Ethan Nunez went 2-for-3 with a walk, double, two runs and four RBIs.
Ivan Barragan singled twice, scored a pair of runs and drove in one.
David Shackleford went 2-for-4 with three runs.
Jake Trabbie walked, singled and scored twice.
Benny Vogel singled and drove in a pair of runs.
Dominic Del Hozo singled in a run.
Shane Dougherty walked and scored.
Up next: Both programs will be in action on Wednesday at Ben Hines Field in La Verne.
The Monarchs and Royals face off at 1, and the Sentinels battle the Outlaws at 4.
