What a remarkable postseason it was for Azusa freshman, Matt Huizar.
Two weeks ago, the Aztecs wrapped up their first CIF-SS (D-8) championship since 1983.
Huizar went 7-for-15 in CIF-SS victories over Santa Rosa Academy (10-0), ACE (15-1), Santa Clarita Christian (9-1), Edgewood (9-5) and Pacifica Christian (5-0).
After 10 days off, the Aztecs opened the CIF State Division 5 So Cal Regional playoffs with a 3-2 victory over University High School.
On Wednesday, AHS earned itself a spot in Saturday’s D-5 regional final after defeating their visitors from Mount Miguel, 6-5.
Azusa would fall, 8-6, to Chavez in nine innings on Saturday, but not before the Aztecs had the most successful season in program history.
In three state games, Huizar went 7-for-9.
Tuesday vs University: He went 2-for-3 with a double and scored one run.
Thursday vs Mount Miguel: Huizar went 3-for-3 with a walk, double, triple, run and four RBIs.
Saturday vs Chavez: He went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Congrats to Matt, his teammates and their coaches for going on the best postseason run in program history.
