Baseball:
The remarkable and historic 2024 season for the Chino Hills baseball program came to an end on Thursday.
University City scored three times in the top of the first inning, and they held off the Huskies, 3-2, in the semifinal round of the CIF State Division 4 So Cal Regional playoffs.
Thiago Quillin went six innings, and he allowed one run on six hits to earn the win.
Quillin didn’t issue a walk and struck out three CHHS batters.
Jack Clark surrendered one run on two hits and a walk over one inning to close out the win.
Andrew Baldomino went 2-for-4, including an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Jacob Jimenez singled and scored.
Brody Buoncristiani singled twice for the Huskies, while Jackson Gray and Josh Mendez had one hit apiece.
Cannon Billingsley had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the second to pull CHHS to within 3-1 of UCHS.
Frankie Brazil singled and scored.
Favian Vasquez went the distance, and he was charged with three runs on seven hits.
Vasquez walked three and fanned six Centurions’ batters.
Mateo Torres-Chapa went 2-for-4 and scored.
Jack Clark walked, had an RBI single and scored.
Nate Thy had an RBI double in the first inning.
Josh Kaplan walked, singled and scored.
Garret Gillum had an RBI ground out.
After finishing third in the Baseline League, Chino Hills secured the first CIF-SS (Division 5) baseball championship in school history.
They also became the first baseball program in the Chino Valley Unified School District (Ayala, Chino, Chino Hills & Don Lugo) to accomplish that feat.
