Girls Athlete of the Week:
Alyssa Galindo and the Etiwanda softball program had a memorable and highly successful week in the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.
The Eagles went 3-0, including wins in the second round (6-0 at La Canada), quarterfinal (3-0 over Redondo Union) and semifinal rounds (5-1 at West Torrance) to earn a spot in next week’s Division 3 championship game.
EHS got a terrific effort in the circle from Cameryn Ortega on Tuesday at LCHS.
Ortega tossed a three-hit shutout, didn’t walk a batter and struck out 13.
In the win, Galindo was hit by pitch and the Eagles’ junior had an RBI single.
Galindo would then go the distance in consecutive wins over Redondo Union and West Torrance, and she surrendered just one run in 14 innings.
On Thursday, she shut out RUHS on three hits and struck out 10.
At the plate, Galindo went 2-for-3, and both of those resulted in EHS runs by pinch-runners.
Fast forward 48 hours, and Galindo and the Eagles claimed a 5-1 victory at West Torrance High School.
She allowed one run on seven hits and struck out three.
She also had a pair of singles at the plate.
Up next: The Eagles will face ML King next Saturday for the CIF-SS Division 3 championship.
